And so was I during this perfect October day at the Chicago Botanic Garden proposal. Cool crisp air and warm sunshine blanketed the gardens that were just starting to show some pockets of autumn colors, and provided the perfect backdrop for Evan and Sonya.
I arrived early just to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery, and then met up with both families to say hello before leading everyone over to the bridge where the proposal was going to take place. We all chatted about who came from where, and how excited we are for these two.
Shortly after getting to the bridge, I sent everyone away to hide so Sonya and Evan wouldn’t see them. I was hidden in plain sight waiting for their arrival. It only took a minute for Evan to get down on one knee and ask Sonya to marry him, which was answered with the happiest “yes!” and lots of tears.
My favorite thing about proposals is all the emotion. These two were so sweet and I loved how surprised Sonya was!
We headed further into the Japanese gardens to “take more photos.” This wasn’t totally false, but there was an even better surprise waiting for Sonya…
After lots of hugs and checking out the ring, we took a few family photos and then sent everyone on their way to let S+E soak in their first engagement moments a little longer and take some more pictures of the two of them.
The Japanese Gardens are one of my favorite spots in the Chicago Botanic Garden. The slight change into fall colors made it even prettier than normal.
We kept walking and ended up in the English Walled Garden and Rose Garden to end our time together. I couldn’t have asked for a prettier day with the sunshine, greenery, and some pops of fall color.
