Cole reached out way back in October to plan this February proposal to Alissa in the heart of downtown Chicago. While we didn’t get the most lucky with the weather (hello, Chicago winters…), we avoided rain and that’s what counts!!
We landed on a weekend just before Valentine’s day for the proposal date–aka the perfect excuse for a little city getaway so these two could come into Chicago for the weekend! I was also SO happy to see a hot pink coat!!! Perfect for the holiday, but even more fun just to add a pop of color to this gloomy day.
I played the part of “just a girl with a camera” and hung out while lots of other photographers and elopement couples came by and took photos in this same spot, and then it was finally go-time.
Alissa and Cole wrapped up brunch around the corner and headed over. Cole asked me to “take a photo” for them on his phone, and I quickly switched to my camera. Alissa was a little confused but didn’t catch on, and then finally Cole got on one knee and popped the question! It was a surprise to her, and so much fun for me to capture.

The second part of the surprise is both families being there and watching from inside the Ghirardelli store with a perfect view of the proposal. While we were in the middle of a few post-proposal photos, they all came out and it was another great surprise for Alissa.

There were too many sweet moments of both Cole and Alissa + their families for me to count. Good thing they’re all in photos ;). I’ll keep the rest private for the families to enjoy, but even I started crying. (I think that happens more than I admit). It was so sweet to have so many people there from siblings to parents and grandparents.

We carried on with a few more photos around Wrigley Building before heading down to the Riverwalk to wrap up.
